This month at Court & Spark Boutique, we’re bowing down to the one and only Ms. Robyn Rihanna Fenty! From the oldest to the youngest members of our staff, we all can agree on one thing… Rihanna is a total icon! 

While she’s gifted us with some of the greatest pop and R&B bangers of the 21st century, Rihanna has also cemented herself as a trailblazer in the worlds of beauty and fashion. From Fenty Beauty to Savage X Fenty, she’s created brands that prioritse inclusivity across skin tones, body types, and identities. For such a strong and successful woman, she also always shows such kindness and humility, which is why we think she is the perfect person to crown as our icon of the month! 

“There's something so special about a woman who dominates in a man's world. It takes a certain grace, strength, intelligence, fearlessness, and the nerve to never take no for an answer.” You know what Rihanna? We completely agree! 

Rihanna's Style Evolution

Rihanna first hit the scene at just 17 years old with “Pon De Replay”, and since then has given us some of the most unexpected and gagworthy looks in recent fashion history. In the early 2000s, she embodied that signature Y2K look: low rise skinny jeans, cropped tanks, bold hoops, and glossy lips. Every girl's inspiration. 

By the 2010s, Rihanna had fully stepped into her own, and was no longer just following trends… She was SETTING them! I think what makes her choices so great is that she’s not afraid to take risks. Who could forget the 2014 Swarovski Crystal dress, or the 2018 Met Gala Pope outfit?

In a recent interview with Harper’s Baazar, she said that she finds joy in “styling the juxtaposition, putting the things together that don’t make sense”, and this is so evident from her style throughout the years. The queen of mixing styles and creating something unexpected, Rih is one of the most exciting celebs to watch when it comes to fashion. Whether she’s walking the red carpet, or just grabbing a bite to eat, she never fails to look chic and effortlessly cool. Who else would think to wear a bomber jacket over a lacy maxi dress? 

A$AP Rocky also revealed in a recent red carpet interview that she loves to steal from his wardrobe (lol, who hasn’t stolen their boyfriends clothes every once in a while?). Using menswear to create the perfect fit is just another way in which RIhanna isn’t afraid to push boundaries when it comes to fashion.

The Baby Bump Era

Who says that maternity fashion needs to be boring? Rihanna is living proof that you can still dress like a baddie, even if you’re pregnant! From her iconic red jumpsuit reveal during her 2023 Super Bowl halftime performance, to her unapologetic embrace of the exposed belly looks, Rih has mastered the art of using her baby bump as the ultimate accessory. Sheer tops, bodycon dresses, and a chic pair of heels of course, there’s nothing she’s afraid to wear even though she’s expecting! Super inspiring to mothers everywhere.

Get the Look

The most obvious way to emulate the Fenty style is to mix streetwear with statement pieces. Cargo pants and a corset top, oversized tees and jeans with huge heels and jewellery, slinky dresses and a pair of chunky trainers. We think Rih would reach for our MIRA dress, or HARIET tops.

Next up! Don’t be afraid to layer textures. Oversized coats over bodycon dresses (her love of fur coats might not work too well in the Whitsundays), pair silk and denim in one outfit, double up on denim, throw in some leather!
